Smriti Mandhana climbs to 4th in ICC Women's ODI rankings
Rising two places, Smriti Mandhana has surged to the No.4 spot among Women’s ODI batters in the latest ICC rankings. Ahead of her are England’s Nat Sciver, Brunt, Sri Lanka’s Chamari Athapaththu, and Australia’s Beth Mooney in the top three positions. Mandhana's climb up the rankings is attributed to her consistent batting performances, notably during the bilateral series against Australia, where she demonstrated her skill with scores of 34 and 29 at Mumbai's iconic Wankhede Stadium. These outstanding displays not only secured victories for her team but also propelled her upward in the rankings.
Ashleigh Gardner dropped three places down to No.22, while Phoebe Litchfield also slipped two places. Tahlia McGrath gained four places up to No.30 in the batting rankings. Meanwhile, South Africa's Laura Wolvaardt faced a downturn in fortunes, slipping to fifth place after a lacklustre performance against Australia. Opening the batting against the formidable Alyssa Healy and company, Wolvaardt struggled, managing only seven runs at an average of 2.33. Her disappointing outing saw her relinquish her previous ranking, making way for Mandana's ascent.
Not only did batters experience shifts in their rankings, but there were also notable movements among all-rounders and bowlers. The impressive ascent of South Africa's Eliz-Mari Marx, climbing 34 places to reach No. 75 in the all-rounders' rankings, serves as a testament to the burgeoning talent within the sport. Additionally, Australia's Kim Garth rising to No.36 and Alana King climbing to No.19 emphasize the fiercely competitive nature of women's cricket. In the bowling category, Marizanne Kapp's elevation to No.2, just behind England's Sophie Ecclestone, underscores her remarkable performance and dominance on the field.
